COPPER Season 1 Recap: A Look Back at 1864 (by BBCAmericaTV)

Relive all the Five Points action of 1864 in a look back at the explosive first season of BBC America’s original series Copper:

COPPER, an American saga set in 1865 New York City, returns for a second season on the brink of Lincoln’s assassination — with shifts in politics and society altering the landscape for Irish immigrants and African-Americans. 

At the center, Detective Kevin Corcoran (TOM WESTON-JONES, MI-5) struggles to tame the wartime metropolis while wrestling with personal demons, including the betrayal of his wife and best friend.

And when Tammany Hall’s outspoken General Brendan Donovan (DONAL LOGUE, Sons of Anarchy, Terriers), returns from the Civil War to restore law and order in the Sixth Ward, loyalties will be bought and sold both uptown and in the slums of the Five Points as Corcoran, and those around him, fight to find their places in an unforgiving city. 

Returning cast members include FRANKA POTENTE (American Horror Story), ATO ESSANDOH (Django Unchained), KYLE SCHMID (Arrow), ANASTASIA GRIFFITH (Once Upon a Time), KEVIN RYAN (Tripping Tommy), DYLAN TAYLOR (Covert Affairs), KIARA GLASCO (Haven) and TESSA THOMPSON (For Colored Girls).

Additionally, ALFRE WOODWARD (Steel Magnolias, Twelve Years a Slave, True Blood), EAMONN WALKER (Chicago Fire, OZ), LEE TERGESEN (Army Wives, OZ) and ANDREW HOWARD (Hatfields and McCoys, Burn Notice) will guest-star this season.

It’s October 11, 1864 - and Detectives Maguire (Kevin Ryan, Tripping Tommy) and O’Brien (Dylan Taylor, Covert Affairs) uncover a gang’s scheme to rob some of the wealthiest families in New York City.

Detective Kevin Corcoran (Tom Weston-Jones, MI-5), once informed, must ensure the safety of patrons at an upscale fundraiser without intruding upon hosts Norbert Morehouse and Elizabeth Haverford (Anastasia Griffith, Royal Pains, Damages). As the police prepare for the gala, Maguire reveals a startling, life-changing decision, surprising O’Brien and Corcoran.

Meanwhile, Marcus Freeman (Ato Essandoh, Damages) prepares Jasper Longfield for his exhibition fight against Irish Jake McGinnis. As the former boxer trains his new protégé, it becomes apparent to Doctor Matthew Freeman that Marcus has his own interests at heart.
